So Who is “Coach Brad” anyway?
Brad shot his first wedding way back in 1986…same year he got married actually. Its been a pretty cool journey along the way too. 25yrs and counting on both! Brad not only does 40 or so weddings a year, he also is a well published sports photographer, with images on Sports Illustrated, ESPN, the New York Times, Fox Sports, Walll Street Journal and dozens more. Its actually a surprisingly parallel genre when you actually break down what is required to do either at the highest levels. One shot to get it right..no second chances….premium on getting it “right” in camera. Post processing workflows that are incredibly streamlined to accommodate deadlines. The list goes on and on but you get the idea.
Brad is above everything else, a husband and a father to his three sons. Son’s who are quickly becoming young men. Coaching, has been something Brad has done all his life. Golf, tennis, and most of all baseball. None of these sports….like photography, are something you can learn to play/do by sitting in a seminar. You have to do it. You have to fail, get up and learn why what you did worked or didn’t. The key to learning of this type is communication. ie, can the instructor get the “ideas” into the head of the student? That’s where most coaches either excel or fail. Brad has taught golf to students who had previously spent huge dollars on a PGA instructor who left them with only blisters, and frustration. But no improvement. In 20 minutes, he had the same lady hitting her driver (which she was afraid to hit), on the range with giddy delight. How? Communication. Doesn’t matter how much the instructor knows, or how good they are (in golf or photography). What matters is, 1.) Can they identify the issues and 2.) Can they communicate it in a way that the student can “get it”. Easier said than done, but is the crux of all coaching and mentoring. It is in this area that Brad truly excels. He has fun with the students, and expresses things in a way that each student can relate to.
Everyone seems to be doing seminars and selling dvds these days. Actually some of the seminars are really just infomercials to sell you more dvds, and action sets. No thanks. Brad does his training hands on. One on one, just like a personal trainer. Just like Hank Haney did with Tiger Woods. One on one..
If that sounds like a lot more fun way to learn, give Brad a call. Chat a bit, and see what a little one on one time can do to your photography. Whether its photography basics, or post production/workflow issues, marketing, selling at bridal shows, or whatever. Brad can make the road a lot less bumpy for you.
